Academic Background and Publications

Having completed my doctorate in French literature at Oxford University I am now working within the French department at the University of Sheffield, as a Research Associate on The Baudelaire Song Project. In 2014 I took a break from academia in order to work as a secondary school English teacher in the South of England, with a particular focus on teaching literature to the top end. I received my PGCE from Exeter University in summer 2015 and am delighted to take these experiences with me as I continue my career in higher education. My main research interests lie in nineteenth-century French literature, looking at interdisciplinary links between poetry, fashion, music and the visual arts. I am fascinated by the relationship between music and learning foreign languages; this has raised key questions, which are, in turn, leading my research in exciting new directions. I am also passionate about university outreach and schools liaison, and am interested in collaborating on projects encouraging young people to consider studying languages, literature and the humanities in higher education.
